WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO SOURCE SUPPLIERS.
Our company is just considering to commence the Export business. I need to know what is the best and effective way to source supplies for products like:
– Canned Foods
– Meat, Seafoods, Poultry Product
– Fruit Drinks
– Tea / Coffee
Please how can one approach this?
Before you consider sourcing products I would advise you to consider which markets you wish to import into and the requirements for different products. There are rules regarding acceptable ingredients, labelling, packing and advertising which differ from country to country.
Just because a product is available in the UK does not mean you can import it anywhere else.

Hi Godswill, I agree with Susan re legal requirements, although there is a degree of commonality across the EU. When we source suppliers ourselves it is often a mixture of running trials to test the product or service and personal recommendation. There is inevitably a trade off between quality and price, and you also need to think hard about possible markets, selling margin, and how you can differentiate yourselves in the market. Potential sales volume is likely to be a factor too, you may well be able to source cheaper if you can guarantee a level of volume. The dilema here is that it is easy to over estimate potential market size, and over order. It can be an expensive mistake to stock the wrong product or the wrong volume.
