What is an International Freight Movement Document (IFMD) ?

Question

Is there such a document as an International freight Movement document. I need to reclaim VAT on exported goods and am told I have to provide an IFMD as proof of export. HELP!

Answer

Hi. I’ve not heard of that document so suspect it’s a generic term to describe evidence of export. Typically the person who declares the export to HMRC will get a report called the S8 which is evidence of export. Ask whoever declared your goods for export for a copy and use that for any claim for VAT.

For other shipments you can make your own declaration so that the report is sent to you directly. Use ezConsign in www.4-exim.com

Thanks. Ian.

Answer

Many Thanks Ian greatly appreciated.

Answer

Information on the Customs requirements for exporting are given in HMRC Public Notice 275. Information regarding the reclaiming of VAT can be found in VAT Notice 703: export of goods from the UK. All notices can be viewed on the GOV.UK website at www.gov.uk by typing ‘Notice number’ in the search box and selecting the notice from the search results:
