Question

what are the current sanctions on sending controlled goods to Russia?

(This question was asked at one of our recent webinars on Export Controls. You can listen to this webinar on our recent webinars page at http://opentoexport.com/info/webinars/)

Answer

The sanctions imposed on Russia are given by Council Regulation (EU) No. 833/2014 further clarified by UK Department for Business Innovation & Skills document ‘EU Sanctions against Russia’ of 5th December 2014. These are the key reference documents.

With particular regard of controlled goods (dual-use) the following statement is given in section 3, page 1.

‘This prohibition should not affect the exports of dual-use goods and technology, including for aeronautics and for the space industry, for non-military use or for a non-military end user.’

Depending what the controlled goods are determines whether you are affected by sanctions or whether you just need to apply for an export licence. If you let me know the nature of the goods I can check the list or even better if you have a CLC number.
