Open Individual Export Licence expiry dates

Question

We have had an OIEL renewal approved by SPIRE, however the current OIEL expiry date is 02/12/2016. The new OIEL starts 31/03/2016. Can we continue to use our existing OIEL until the expiry date?

Answer

Gary, while the new OIEL has likely been applied for to replace the one that expires in December it’s not a “renewal” as such but an entirely new licence – even if it does cover the same goods and destinations.

As such the original OIEL will still be valid until its expiry date – unless there is a proviso in the new licence that would contradict this – but using both between now and December is going to overcomplicate your compliance records.

Your ECO compliance officer would be a good point of reference to get a final confirmation on this – they’re generally really friendly and approachable people.

Answer

Gary – thanks for your enquiry.

You may not still be able to use the original OIEL as the new OIEL has been issued already. I have spoken to the ECO Licensing Unit and the advice is that you should get in touch with your Licensing Officer to discuss what action to take.

Claire
