Our experience indicates you will almost certainly find exporting food and drink products to the USA easier if you have a company, address, telephone, etc established in the USA – especially when dealing with the requirements of the Food & Drug Administration.
All foods, drugs, medicines and cosmetics must have labeling or packaging that complies with the regulations of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). All other products must comply with the regulations of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
Information regarding labeling and packaging requirements can be obtained by contacting the FTC; printed packaging and labeling requirements from the FDA; and general inquiries from the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The USA is a great market for food and drink products. PepsiCo is a global food and beverage leader with net revenues of more than $65 billion and a product portfolio that includes 22 brands that generate more than $1 billion each in annual retail sales. The company’s main businesses include Quaker, Tropicana, Gatorade, Frito-Lay and Pepsi-Cola.
Selling direct to consumer, with more than 14,000 outlets, McDonald’s does not have the most locations. That title goes to Subway with 24,722 so-called restaurants. However, the maker of the “Big Mac” dwarfs competitors with 2012 sales in the USA of more than $34 billion.
