Question

In regard to nuclear power technology, are all export controls specified in the Strategic Export Controls List or are there additional country-specific lists such as under US export regulations?

(This question was asked at one of our recent webinars on Export Controls. You can listen to this webinar on our recent webinars page at http://opentoexport.com/info/webinars/)

Answer

The controls on certain types of sensitive nuclear materials facilities and equipment in Cat 0 of the EU Dual Use List are those items which are in the Nuclear Suppliers Group “Trigger List”. It is called the Trigger List because exports of such material trigger the requirement for safeguards. The NSG consists of 40 nuclear supplier countries including the UK and USA.

The list is one of two lists published by the International Atomic Energy Authority (IAEA). The other list is the NSG Dual Use List. Both lists can be found on the NSG website http://www.nuclearsuppliersgroup.org/en/nsg-documents
