What’s your best advice / best practice to get a French domain name for the French website of a British company?
Thanks for your help.

We recently ran a three part international e-commerce webinar series. You may wish to take a look at the second webinar in the series, which covered international domains and increasing your international digital footprint:
I hope this helps.
I would suggest to use Namecheap ( https://www.namecheap.com/domains/registration/cctld/fr.aspx) for your .fr Domain registration. They have helped a large number of our European and UK based businesses when promoting their E-commerce solutions abroad. if you are targeting a new audience in France then this will be perfect as you will have a native Domain to work with.
Please remember that in France majority of search requests in Google are made in French and not US English or British English like other EU countries are.
Depending on the E-commerce platform you have you can point multiple Domains/URL’s to one store which can help reduce your time uploading products etc.
If you would like some advice about E-commerce optimisation in France or Europe please feel free to contact me direct on 07852 537715 or our UK office number.
If you’re asking specifically how to obtain a French ccTLD for a British website, then it’s a pretty simple task of buying the .fr domain like you would any other (.com/.co.uk) from your ISP. However, if you’re interested in the different domain options available for a British company looking to promote their business in France, this article may help – http://websitetranslation.co.uk/international-website-structure/.
Hope that helps,
