Answer

Hi there Shahab,

You will certainly need a EORI number as this is the number that will be used during any interactions with HMRC. Quick and easy process, particularly if you are already VAT registered (https://www.gov.uk/guidance/eori-supporting-guidance)

Unsure with regards to the environmental agency. You may need to complete an Annex 3 document prior to export in addition to the ordinary export paperwork but I’m not certain on this – this may be a question for the environmental agency or at least they should be able to point you in the right direction.

Also have to be diligent when it comes to shipping scrap as the shipping lines and consolidators are very dubious of it. Reason being because it is labelled as ‘scrap’ they have in the past been left with unclaimed containers at destination which they want to avoid.

That being said, I imagine this is quite high value ‘scrap’ so this should go in your favour and make the logistics a little easier for you!

Hope this is of some help.

Kind regards,

Simon.

Answer

Private individuals importing goods to the UK from outside of the European Union (EU) for personal use will not normally need to obtain an EORI number no matter what the value of the consignment. However, you should note that some fast parcel operators will require an EORI number if the value of the consignment exceeds £600.

Businesses involved in customs activities and established in the customs territory of the Community, will need to apply for an EORI number even if they only import or export goods infrequently and regardless of the value of the consignment.
