Question
Does the military list contain some specific codes for UK purposes only?
(This question was asked at one of our recent webinars on Export Controls. You can listen to this webinar on our recent webinars page at https://opentoexport.com/info/webinars/)
Answer
The Dual Use List applies across the 28 member states of the EU, whereas military controls are decided by each member state separately so there will be some difference between the lists although they are based on the same international regimes – the Wassenaar Arrangement in the case of military goods.
Answer
The UK Military List is derived from the Munitions List; which is the responsibility of the Wassenaar Arrangement. There are 40+ member states in Wassenaar. In UK Law, the military controlled items are included as Schedule 2 of the Export Control Order 2008, and the list is updated as Amendments to the Control Order.
The military list contains a number of UK controls – which are identified by their nomenclature PL. The list of UK controls on dual us goods is included as Schedule 2 of the Export Control Order. The Lists are updated regularly – the latest consolidated list is dated December 2015 see https://www.gov.uk/guidance/uk-strategic-export-control-lists-the-consolidated-list-of-strategic-military-and-dual-use-items
