Can I get a certificate to confirm good do not require an export license?

Question

i believe our goods do not require a license for us to export, however how to i go about getting this confirmed? would i receive a certificate to prove that they do not require a license?

(This question was asked at one of our recent webinars on Export Controls. You can listen to this webinar on our recent webinars page at http://opentoexport.com/info/webinars/)

Answer

There used to be a rating service offered by the ECO, which would provide you with a letter stating the category of your goods or that they were “NLR” (No Licence Required) but it has been discontinued so it is down to you to self rate you products using the control lists or the checker tools that can be found on the ECO website.

You do not get a certificate to prove your goods are not controlled, so just make sure that you keep evidence of your checking process and conclusions in case you are asked the question at a later date.
