The creative and tech sectors are two of the UK’s most exciting and dynamic for exporting. In the fifth of a series of case studies looking at businesses carrying the flag for the UK overseas, we look at Potionshop.
Who are Potionshop?
Both Bernie and Beverley are fully qualified holistic therapy practitioners.
Every Potionshop product is laced with the magical healing properties of organic essential oil. Beverley Higham and Bernie Mulligan have over 40 years experience in the beauty and holistic therapy field.
We have the full support of cosmetic chemists and herbalists to innovate and test our beautiful creations and ensure they comply with strict EU legislation governing product safety. We have won an award in every single competition we have entered and are led by the demands of our clientele, constantly inspired by new plants cultivated in changing climates.

Where are you now with your exporting plans?
We sell organic active natural skincare products and we’re selling in Austria, Ireland and Poland, and we want to now go to Norway.
How has the Action Plan helped your business?
It’s stopped me from getting side-tracked. I always try to plan what I’m doing but sometimes I leave and end up making it up as I go along. I’m more focused now because I have a plan.
And how have you found the experience of the competition today?
Quite nerve-wracking because the standards have been so high. It’s definitely a good thing for business in England that the standards are so high – I’ve just been wowed by everyone really.
