Exporting defence & security – with the Department for International Trade’s Defence & Security Organisation

By Richie Santosdiaz

Organized by Messe Frankfurt, Intersec is the world’s leading trade fair for Security, Safety & Fire Protection. Intersec Middle East 2019 is organised by Messe Frankfurt Middle East and returns with key government supporters such as Dubai Police, Dubai Civil Defence, Dubai Police Academy, Dubai Municipality, and the Security Industry Regulatory Agency (SIRA). The latest edition this past January, according to the Intersec website, attracted 35,889 visitors from 126 countries.

The UK, with its history and know-how, has much to showcase to the world with UK companies exporting their expertise in this industry.

With security alone this is evident. It is estimated that the UK security market is worth £6bn. Over 2,000 companies specialise in the design, manufacture and supply of security equipment in the UK and the British security industry employs around 600,000 people. It is estimated there are 4.25 million CCTV cameras installed in the UK with £1.2bn worth of property stolen every year in the UK.

During Intersec 2019 in Dubai, with special thanks to Messe Frankfurt Middle East, Richie Santosdiaz on behalf of Open to Export interviewed Adam Thomas, Senior Press Officer and Spokesperson for the Defence & Security Organisation.
