Michele Conway, Sales Director at Pasta Foods.

How would you describe your business / what do you sell?

We are a dried pasta manufacturer and snack pellet producer based in the UK. Selling directly into some of the world’s largest food manufacturers – our products end up in many markets such as canned, ambient, fresh and frozen.

When and why did the business decide to export?

Pasta Foods have been exporting snacks for many years in various countries, growing organically and winning incremental business with existing customers. We are wanting to develop our export business through two key ranges – snacks and instant pasta. Our innovative pellet bases, including lentil, pea and chickpea, really tap into the health trends and therefore offer us global opportunities to grow our business. In addition our instant pasta used in mug meals, and sachets also tap into the growing on the go and convenience trend and also appeals to the global consumer.

What is the company’s export vision?

Our vision is to map our export growth to the largest snack markets in the world.

How useful did you find the Export Action Plan?

The plan is simple to use and really intuitive. It makes you think through the whole process of exporting and raises all the areas to consider.

How has/will the plan help accelerate your export goals?

We have used the export planning tool to understand the target markets that we would like to develop our export business with. It is a really useful resource which has enabled us to structure our approach and understand not only the opportunities but the potential challenges of trading in new territories. We now have a clear plan which we are implementing to achieve our export aspirations, and we are very excited about the opportunities this has presented for our business.
