When and why did the business decide to export?

Our quite niche product doesn’t have enough of a market in the UK, so Europe and the far east were obvious places to start looking for custom.

What is the company’s export vision?

We need to be sure that we have uncovered every stone when it comes to searching for customers that respond with the highest margin.

How did you find out about Open to Export?

I think through the UKTI.

How useful did you find the Export Action Plan?

Yes, it helped to focus the thought process onto what might be required in different markets. As we are dealing with countries whose language we don’t speak, we would normally be nervous of making contact with those countries, but since Christmas 2015, we have been getting a flurry of interest from the far east.

How has/will the plan help accelerate your export goals?

Well, if our plans come to fruition, (yet more puns!), we will have a project that can begin to re-invest for the future. Without actual sales, the well-intentioned plans will go back to gather dust on a shelf, but as soon as sales begin to come through, then some acceleration is expected. The recent fall in value of sterling should be a golden opportunity to all exporters, especially those that are building/growing/manufacturing with raw materials sourced in the UK.
