UKTI supports Ultra Electronics success in Turkey

UKTI supports Ultra Electronics’ success in Turkey

With its Head Office based in West London, Ultra Electronics offers innovative specialist solutions to the defence & aerospace, security & cyber, transport and energy sectors.

Turkey’s national ship building programme, the MLGEM project gave the company the chance to supply its Surface Ship Torpedo Defence (SSTD) systems for the vessels, establish itself within Turkey, and build a cooperative and mutually beneficial relationship with a dynamic and receptive overseas industrial partner.

Having found a Turkish agent, Ultra also involved the UKTI Defence & Security Organisation (DSO), which was particularly important whilst negotiating the sensitivities of government-to-government agreements. In 2004, the company secured its first contract in Turkey to install SSTDs into the first two MLGEM vessels. In January 2013, it signed a further contract with a Turkish Shipyard to provide torpedo defence systems on two Landing Ship Tank vessels.
