Realtek sets up regional HQ and R&D centre in Singapore

25.06.2014

Realtek Singapore – subsidiary of Taiwan-based Realtek Semiconductor Corporation – announced that its regional headquarters, and research and development (R&D) centre will be opening this month in Singapore.

According to its press release, Realtek currently has its eyes on the upcoming Internet of Things (IoT) and smart home applications. The Singapore government has been very aggressive in setting up policies, coupled with its strategic geographic position that attracts global talents and investments to form an amicable ecosystem for the communication industry; and Realtek Singapore has been established as a confluence of the two visions.

The semiconductor company said that the establishment of Realtek Singapore aims to attract top R&D talents in Singapore and the greater Southeast Asia in software design, hardware design, and digital integrated circuit design. Such recruitments are expected to help deliver highly innovative and competitive products and services to lead the IoT and smart home markets in the age of cloud computing and big data.

At its opening ceremony and product launch on June 17 at Marina Mandarin Hotel, Singapore, Lim Kok Kiang, Assistant Managing Director of the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), said that over the next five years, Realtek Singapore will invest S$180 million (approximately US$143 million), to establish a 25-man HQ and 50-man R&D centre in Singapore.

He added: “The R&D centre here will develop advanced network processors that will be used in networking equipment such as WiFi routers. It will also develop solutions for Internet-of-Things applications such as smart home and smart wearable devices. These are the products which will contribute strongly to the future growth of Realtek.”

“We are very pleased to cooperate with Singapore EDB to set up the Realtek Singapore office,” said Luke Huang, Chairman of Realtek Singapore. “We plan to continue our investments to attract top talents into the Realtek family and to show our commitments to our partners and customers. Realtek is proud to be a part of the growth and innovation engines of Singapore technology development.”
