Financial and Business Services sector in Ireland

250 of the world’s leading financial services firms – including half of the world’s top 50 banks – have internationally focused operations in Ireland. This presence has allowed Ireland to become a major global hub for fund administration, aircraft leasing, insurance and a range of wholesale banking activities.

Market overview

Across the sector, as of 2010, there were over 500 firms in Ireland, employing circa 32,000 persons directly, 6,000 of which were employed by indigenous companies.

Underlining further the sector’s significance is the fact that 10 percent of all multinational employment and 7.4 percent of Irish GDP is derived from the sector. While, across the EU27, circa 5 percent of all cross border financial service activity originates from Ireland.
