Teesside-based accessibility products manufacturer wins business in Hungary with help from UKTI Budapest.
Access Business Development Division (ABDD), based in the North East of England, is one of Europe’s leading providers of stairlifts, homelifts and platform lift solutions. ABBD now operates in more than 40 countries, and is celebrating winning significant business in Nordic and Central Eastern European territories including Hungary during the last 12 months.
The company aimed to expand into Eastern Europe and considered entering the Hungarian market via reseller contacts in Hungary involved in accessibility market sector.
ABBD first contacted UKTI Budapest in 2011 and commissioned an OMIS, UKTI’s flexible tool aimed at helping UK companies develop their business in a new overseas market. The service included provision of a warmed-up list of potential resellers and a market visit programme arrangement. ABBD also required relevant information on the accessibility market in Hungary, including market size, existing sales channels, competitor activity, local and EU funding, national legislation and statutes affecting the sale of accessibility products and potential barriers to the sale of accessibility products.
Following research on behalf of Access BDD UKTI Budapest was able to identify almost a dozen potential business partners in Hungary. Hungarian company Meyra-Ortopedia Ltd was one of these leads and the two companies met at the RehaCare International Trade Fair and Congress in Düsseldorf in 2012. Following successful business negotiations a deal was struck. Access BDD has now secured its first order from Meyra-Ortopedia Ltd and is expecting to receive new orders in the coming months.
“UK Trade & Investment in Hungary provided a great help to gradually build up the business with Access BBD. We are grateful to the Team who really helped us on our way to getting this initial order.”
Mr Zoltán Mezei, Managing Director, Meyra-Ortopedia
