The British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) is the leading trade association for beer in the UK and it represents around 90% of all beer produced and sold here in the UK. It’s objective is to reduce the tax and regulatory burden on this sector.

Some key aspects to note when exporting beer:

  • The current market is quite varied – With the US dominating this sector (23 percent of the market) it’s important to think about where in the world you want to export to. Following up closely behind the US is Ireland and then France, both of which are geographically close meaning transport costs will be less.
  • How the BBPA can help – The BBPA can help in many ways including being able to provide and share contact details of distributors and agents, helping you research on emerging markets and much more. They will also be able to create opportunities for you to get into the overseas market if your business has had no breakthroughs already.

Hamish ran over the most important points that you need to cover when it comes to exporting dairy products abroad. For instance there are many different variants of dairy and it’s important to know about all of them. He added that the UK is exporting more milk and cream then any other product, followed closely by cheese and curd.

Knowing your products is all well and good, but it’s also advantageous to know the export destinations and who is the biggest importer. North American and Sub-Saharan Africa are the biggest destinations that the UK exports to meaning that it would be good for your business to get a foothold in these countries.
