What documentation do I need to include when posting a parcel to china

Question

The value of the parcel is in excess of €4000
I have been trying to get simple information as this is my first time exporting to China. I regularly send goods to EU using Royal Mail and would like to be able to do the same for China.

Answer

Hi Gill

I hope you are well?

I would recommend speaking to the export documentation department of the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce & Industry, they will be able to advise you on relevant documentation required. 0121 454 6171

Answer

Dear Gill.

Having read your message I would just be careful with sending first by Royal Mail. Sending packages of a commercial basis does mean an invoice for Customs Purposes in China will be required as your customer in China will need to pay Duty & Taxes on the value of what you declare.

The Royal Mail may have a form that needs to be completed in this regard too as its an export from the UK & require export customs clearance. Its not like sending to the EU whereby we have a free trade agreement and no Duties or customs clearance is required.

Normally commercial goods are sent by courier if that small with a high value & the courier company will require the commercial invoice too. Otherwise its sent by Aifreight or Seafreight & you will find that this means that an agent overseas will be required to clear for the customer in China – provided he is registered to import too.

You could actually find that you will need to be registered to Export too with an EORI No. which means filling in some simple forms before you can organise anything being despatched.

If you need to discuss further please contact me.

Answer

Dear Ms Galloway-Whitehead

Information on the Customs requirements for exporting is given in HMRC Public Notice 275. All notices can be viewed on the GOV.UK website at www.gov.uk by typing ‘Notice 275’ in the search box and selecting the following links from the search results: > Notice 275 “Customs export procedures” a guide to UK export procedures using the National Export System.
