We are niche frozen food products importers and distributors in UK. Exploring the possibility to export smaller quanties to different cities in India with an intention to distribute to star hotels, clubs and restaurants. Not sure if its practical setting our own depots or look for existing distributors in India to partner.
Any suggestion in this regard would be appreciated.
Sufficient diligence will need to be done before appointing a distributor since reliable cold storages in India are few and far between. It is only practical to set up your own facility if the order size is of a sufficient quantum. I attach the link to a fact sheet prepared by Penningtons on the framework for setting up supply-chain logistics in India: http://www.penningtons.co.uk/International/India/~/media/Documents/Info/Indian-supply-chain-opportunities.ashx
Thanks very much for your query regarding exporting and distributing frozen food in India. We work with some good chilled food distributors in India so I’m happy to connect you to them so that you can explore synergies and possible partnerships and learn more about the local environment. This is probably a better way to start engaging with India and then you can look to set up your own depot at a later stage once you have established demand as Saionton mentions above and understood the market dynamics.
Please contact me directly on email@example.com and I will be happy to put you in touch with the companies i mentioned above.
