Hi Chansa. If you want to access buyers or agents or distributors for your products in countries like Zambia then it might be worth using the business opportunity facility on the Frontier Market Network - www.frontiermarketnetwork.com

You can register for free and post a business opportunity setting out what you are looking for - e.g. "Seeking importers / distributors for / buyers of farm equipment in Zambia". This opportunity will be promoted to the database of Frontier members in that country who operate in (or have expressed and interest in) the agricultural and you will be able to start building business relationships with people who respond.

You will see the other types of business opportunities around agriculture here http://www.frontiermarketnetwork.com/content-sector/business-opportunities/1-agriculture-forestry-and-fishing

and a specific one relating to the import / export of farm machinery

Dear Chansa,

Thanks for your question.

We do not have any commercial representation in Zambia. However, we do in a couple of the surrounding countries eg Mozambique, South Africa. You can find more information on www.ukti.gsi.gov.uk

It is worth talking to an International Trade Advisor. They can help you get started and help you to identify which African markets to target. The team nearest to you is:

UKTI South West

Hope that this helps.

Dear Chansa,
First steps would be to undertake a bit of desk-research
- If you are looking to export new products - you need to check whether the suppliers already have distributers in the markets you are targetting.
- You will need to check , for each of the countries that you are looking to export, what the local import regulations are - pre shipment inspection, conformity to local standards and possible restrictions on the age of second hand vehicles.
- Some countries levy quite high import duties and other taxes on imported vehicles. To find out what import duties exist, you can then look on the EU Database of third Country Import Duties. This will tell you what the rate of import duty is for products imported from the EU into a "Third Country" e.g. Zambia http://madb.europa.eu/madb/datasetPreviewFormATpubli.htm?datacat_id=AT&from=publi
- Talk to a few freight forwarders about the costs and logistics of getting the products to market.
- Once you have established this information, you will be able to get a feel for which countries offer the best opportunties and which are going to be too costly/problematic.
From there you can look at finding partners / distributers.

I am based at UKTI in Bristol, so if you want to call to discuss this further my number is 01275 370766.
