Selling Leather Bags (e-commerce) USA

Question

Hi,
I’m writing a paper on methods of researching into entering overseas markets. This is specific to my company that deals with leather bags for men. I was wondering if anyone could help in regards to sourcing information regarding duty trading from UK to US.
Thanks in advance,
Awel

Answer

A good place to source information on duty is http://madb.europa.eu/madb/datasetPreviewFormATpubli.htm?datacat_id=AT&from=publi

Answer

The duty threshold for the US is $200. So if you are sending single items with a value of less than $200 there is no duty to pay.
If you need any help regarding providing prices for tracked postal delivery (and/or a returns service) then please don’t hesitate to get in touch (07747 271676 / [email protected])

Answer

Hi Awel,

I would recommend you start looking at http://www.cbp.gov/trade/basic-import-export for US customs and trade regulations. Also, I think you might also want to look into the following:

1. Is it cheaper to import your product on a order basis (single item/ eCommerce)?
2. Or does it make better sense in setting up a distribution network in the US and import on a bulk basis?
3. You might also want to look into a licensing option with a US re-seller and see if they will market, distribute and sell the product in the US.

If you would like more information regarding the above topics, potential partners in the US, freight, logistics and/or supply chain companies feel free to shoot me an email: [email protected]

Best regards,

Chris
