Opening a bank account in India

Question posted by Dan Grigg, on behalf of Aura Aviation in OX5

We are trading with an Indian company and wish to open an Indian Bank account. Without actually travelling to India to work out the procedure we hope that someone may have overcome this hurdle previously and can explain the procedure and pitfalls.

Hi Dan

Not the same I now but I opened a Euro accuont with a Dutch bank. My first port of call was to our own bank to see if they partnered or had connections with any banks in the region. I was steered towards Rabobank in this case & completed the application on line & identified myself here certified by a UK bank. Hope this helps.

Hi Dan, we don't currently trade directly with India, but I've been at a UKTI event today about trading with India at which a number of speakers were talking about the complexities of trading with the country, including opening bank accounts. As a general rule I would agree with Anne that your UK bank may be a good place to start, but you are likely to need specialist advise. Hope this is helpful. Kindest regards Mike
