If goods are not on any control lists, do i still need to check the Country/Customer?

Question

I do not believe any of our goods are on any control lists, Does this mean i do not need an export licence? or do i still need to check the Country/Customer?

(This question was asked at one of our recent webinars on Export Controls. You can listen to this webinar on our recent webinars page at https://opentoexport.com/info/webinars/)

Answer

If your goods are not on the Control list you do not normally need an export licence for them. They are classified as NLR – No Licence Required. However, the End Use Controls could still apply if the goods are destined for a Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) end use or are destined for a military end use in a country subject to an Arms embargo. You will therefore need to check the destination and the End use/End user.
