I need to know the calculation of freight forwarding cost of goods.

Question posted by Godswill Aadum, on behalf of KILSI-FIJAY COMPANY LIMITED in EH6

Please our company is considering the export of canned food to Nigeria and we need a freight forwarding company or expert that can give us an idea of how to calculate the cost of say a 40ft container of canned food to Nigeria. We also need to know if there are some other incidental costs involved besides freight cost.

Hi Godswill

Thank you for your question.

You may wish to take a look at the following article posted by community member Mark Woolnough of Freight Filter Ltd:

You may also wish to take a look at our Nigeria section which includes a wealth of content on exporting to Nigeria including articles, events, opportunities & previously answered questions:

Hi Godswill

It is normally advisable to get quotes from freight forwarders to work out your cost but of course you will need to be clear what your delivery (INCOTERM) is for the shipments as this has a direct bearing on your costs. Another good source of information relating to export/import requirements is the Market Access Data Base http://madb.europa.eu/madb/indexPubli.htm which will guide you in terms requirements and subsequent costs. If you would like to chat further please call or email.

Regards

Neil Fraser

Hello Godswill,
When calculating your costs don't forget things such as product approval, import duty and taxes in addition to freight costs.

Take a look at the Export Bootcamp webinar on this site concerning export pricing where I detailed many of the things you need to consider.

Regards,
Susan
