Dear Marc,

there are many ways you can get traction in the USA quickly; the fastest way is to set up a virtual office near where your current or prospective customers are as well as a phone line which calls can be forwarded back to you in the UK. You also should visit regularly and promote your local virtual US address so you look local -- Americans need to know you're easily reachable and nearby. Do contact me if I can help you more. allyson@intermarketingonline.com/tel 020 7828 9400.

Dear Marc,
Always worried about quick. There are lots of people who will tell you that this is possible but I once worked for a company that learned the hard way that the US can be a big loss maker without a strategy. Where are your potential customers? Do you have any research on these? Do you have a plan and a budget?

Dear Marc,
Both Allyson and Kevin are quite correct. One needs to approach the U.S. market with a plan and a base of operations.

I am willing to discuss the current market for your services here in the U.S and where you might be able to find clients. My specialty is developing marketing plans, including research into competition and where and how customers can be reached.

If you need a virtual office established I can suggest good addresses that are near your main markets.

I also can set-up teleconferences and video/web conferences to discuss bids/ proposals with potential clients. I work as a Media Services and Marketing Consultant in the NY/NJ area.
Respectfully,
Matthew Maginley

Hi Marc

Having taken a brief look at your web site, it appears you have a considerable opportunity. The recent acquisition of Getty Images, the world's largest picture agency, by the Carlyle Group for $2.1bn is indicative of how valuable your company's offer might become.

I would recommend visiting my company's web site: www.exportaction.com. We assist UK SMEs add sales, profits and value to their companies by assisting with the establishment, development and management of presence in US markets.

For less than the cost of a virtual, or box number, office, you can have a real office in the USA staffed by people who know about your company, its products and services and who care about your business.

If what we do is right for you, you can have a real USA office operational (with a company, attorney, accountant and bank account if you want them) in less than ten working days. Well you did say you wanted to get traction quickly.

Please fell free to get back to me for any additional information, or clarification you might want. We don't have sales executives and you won't be receiving interminable telephone calls and emails. Nor do we charge for an initial discussion.

As the world's largest, single-country market, the USA represents a huge opportunity. Most of the individual markets of the USA are between five and ten times bigger than their UK counterparts. By all means act quickly, but do it while paying careful attention to risk management by avoiding unnecessary capital expenditure, or entering into long-termm, inflexible contractual arrangements.

With kind regards and best wishes.

Roger

Correction to earlier response.

Please excuse me. As if to illustrate the challenge of working across time-zones (I am in the USA at present and it is 02.23 EST), I made an error on what Carlyle Group paid for Getty Images. It was $3.3bn (£2.1bn) and not as stated in my previous response.

Marc:

I am an attorney who specialises in assisting foreign firms with U.S. corporate law. From experience, I know that foreign businesses operating in the U.S. are often not aware of the benefits available to them through tour legal system. I would suggest that you find a U.S. attorney that you can trust to assist you as you build your U.S. presence.

I would very much appreciate the opportunity to discuss how we can set your business up for success in the U.S.

Please feel free to email me.
