Freight Brokerage company UK – Lithuania, UK – Poland.

Question

Hi Everybody
I am planning to set up a freight brokerage company in May. The main idea was to help UK manufacturers and suppliers (I guess only Midlands based in the beginning) help to export their goods to the Lithuania and Poland. I am originally from Lithuania, but studying and live in the UK for 3 years now. My question is can someone advice me on this topic, I mean is there any demand for such a business at all, is there such a market (Lane) Midlands – Poland, Midlands – Lithuania? Should I focus on the product niche, or geographical is enough? Anyway, I am totally new to this and would appreciate any advice. Thank you

Answer

Hello,
I suggest that you research via the internet. There will already be companies offering freight services including brokerage to Poland and Lithuania by road, sea and air from the Midlands and other parts of the UK so you can see how they have set out their services.

Yes there is demand but you will need to find some way to differentiate yourself from all the others that are already in the market place.

In general the freight business operates on very low margins so you will need to find a way to compete.

Susan

Thank you for your reply. I am doing my research on this topic, but unfortunately all I can found is Companies who are already established and are focused on big markets such as UK – ASIA, UK – EUROPE or even UK – Worldwide. The problem for me is that it will be impossible to compete with such companies, thus I want to focus on much smaller market, only Poland and Lithuania. But again, does it makes sense for anybody to use my service, instead of established companies who operating worldwide? I mean I understand that it is a must to have a USP for such a small company in the beginning, but what might be offered from me, bearing in mind that I definitely won’t be able to beat big competitors in terms of price (and I believe in terms of delivering timescale too)?

Answer

Hello,
try typing ‘haulage to Lithuania’ into your browser. You will see lots of companies offering services to Lithuania along with their ideas of what makes their offering the best. It should give you some ideas.
