Do I need an export licence to ship into China?

Question

I understand that if I am exporting controlled goods I will need to apply for an export licence but do I need one for uncontrolled goods?
I will be shipping samples only so no commercial value.

Answer

Hi Lisa, whether you need an export licence or not depends on the type of goods you are shipping. If the goods are not on the lists of controlled goods then you will be ok though you do need to know the end-use of your goods too as we have embargoes, sanctions and end-use controls.

I suggest you find out the commodity code number for the goods and use the export tab on the ww.gov.uk/trade-tariff page to check if there are licensing requirements.

BTW if the goods do need an export licence then samples normally do too
