Assistance on export procedures and rules and VAT rules

Question

What are the procedures and rules and VAT rules for a UK company exporting goods from Switzerland to Qatar but invoicing from UK?

Answer

Hi Charles, VAT rules are very complex, so you should seek professional advice, I don’t claim to be an expert, but in general whether VAT is chargable depends on the location of your customer, if you are supplying a legal entity based in Qatar, then the supply will be "outside the scope" of UK VAT. The fact the goods are supplied frrom Switzerland, is a bit of a red herring here. If they were supplied from the UK the same would apply. With regards to specific export procedures, a good place to start in looking for advice is your local Chamber of Commerce. Many chambers offer an export documentation service for exporters dealing with different countries. Here the fact the goods originate in Switzerland may be an added complication. Hope this helps.
