Regent Engineering finds new business in Finland

After researching overseas markets, Regent Engineering decided to target the Nordics, a relatively small market with a widespread use of English in business.

Pressed metal manufacturer Regent Engineering is a family-run company based in Darlaston, West Midlands. It designs, assembles and manufactures metal components to the specifications of its clients and in 2010, developed FloorStak, a system of adjustable towers to support marquee flooring.

After researching overseas markets, Regent Engineering decided to target the Nordics, a relatively small market with a widespread use of English in business. To find out more about doing business there, the company contacted UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), and in early 2012 the company commissioned an Overseas Market Introduction Service report to help find potential customers. In the spring of 2013, Regent received two export orders from companies identified in the report.

“Without UKTI’s help it would have taken us much longer to identify potential customers in Finland,” says Ray Smith, Business Development Manager at Regent Engineering. “Instead of cold calling, we were able to get in touch with companies that UKTI had already warmed up, making it easier for us to start a dialogue with them. Given that we had a product that was new and unheard of, the initial introductions by UKTI were even more crucial. UKTI’s advisers were helpful, knowledgeable and cared about our success.”
